Animal Control Certificate Program - Part I
Midlands Technical College is pleased to offer Part I of its Animal Control Certificate Program for animal control officers in South Carolina. Part I of this program offers a comprehensive educational program designed to provide hands-on experiences for animal control officers to enable them to deliver professional and humane animal control services that meet the high standards of quality that citizens in South Carolina expect and deserve.
Training
Midlands Technical College combines experts in the practice of veterinary medicine with experts in law enforcement and wildlife management to ensure that animal control officers receive the individual instruction necessary to perform their duties in a professional and caring manner. The 40-hour, hands-on course of instruction will cover:
- Animal Behavior
- Rabies/Euthanasia
- Animal Identification
- Animal Diseases/Zoonosis
- First Aid for Animals
- Capture Techniques
- Report Writing
- Interview Techniques
- Laws and Legal Proceedings
- Evidence Collection
- Court Room Testimony
- Crisis Intervention/Officer Safety
- Professionalism/Stress Management
- Shelter Operations
Examinations
Students may have topic quizzes from handouts. These quizzes will serve the purpose of review and preparation and will not count toward the final grade. The final examination will consist of multiple-choice questions and a hands-on skills examination. A passing grade of 70% is required
NOTE: Parts I and II may be taken independently of each other. They do not have to be taken in order.
Cost
Tuition is $395 and covers all materials.
