Introduction to SQL

 

 

Duration:                 12 hours

Description:           This course prepares the novice database user to use generic SQL (Structured Query Language) to retrieve, store and manipulate data from any relational database.  The fundamentals of querying and SQL statements will be covered.

 

Objective:               This course will introduce SQL as a means for querying, storing and otherwise manipulating data.

 

Course Content:

 

Defining the relationship between a database and SQL

Writing and executing basic SQL statements

Writing and executing SQL queries containing functions and aliases

Selecting information from two or ore tables simultaneously

Updating and inserting data into a table

Create, alter and drop tables

Granting and revoking privileges to other users

 

Suggested Prerequisites:

Introduction to Windows 95 or 98 is highly recommended in order to ensure that the student is familiar with input and output storage devices, memory, data files, program files and working within the Windows environment.  The student should also have a basic understanding of database structure and terminology, such as fields or columns, and records or rows.
