Dental Office Professional Training
Dental office professionals hold clerical positions in dental offices. They answer telephones, greet patients, update and file patient medical records, fill out insurance forms, handle correspondence and schedule appointments. Emphasis is placed on interpersonal and skill development in administrative functions such as reception, scheduling, filing, billing, completion of insurance claims, patient relations, dental terminology, communication and familiarization with administrative duties.
All courses in the Dental Office Professional curriculum are offered
online. A certificate of achievement is given to individuals who
successfully complete the following courses:

- Blood-Borne Pathogents
- HIPAA for Physician Offices
Courses are listed in recommended order:
Introduction to Continuing Education Online Learning
This course provides an introduction to software applications
necessary to participate in Continuing Education online health care
programs. Other applications reviewed are Microsoft Outlook and
searching the Internet. This course is a prerequisite to all
online courses. No book required.
Dental Terminology
This online course helps students master the dental vocabulary and
terms used in dental office careers. It covers word parts, root
words, general application, abbreviations and dental terminology.
It benefits all clerical dental office staff. Books not included.
Dental Billing
This online course concentrates on reimbursement for dental
services. Emphasis is placed on the review of ADA codes, dental
terminology, the claims process, the ins and outs of dental coding, and
dental documentation and how to interpret it. Books not included.
Dental Office Management
This course explores the responsibilities of today's dental office
receptionist. Topics include the business of dentistry,
communication, clinical records management and administrative duties.
Books not included.
Blood-Borne Pathogens
This online course provides information on transmission, exposure
incidents, preventing exposure, and signs and symptoms of HBV, HCV, HIV,
OSHA and potentially infectious materials. This course can be offered
separately for dental offices that may need employee blood-borne
pathogen training. Books not includes.
HIPAA for Physician and Dental Offices
This online course focuses on key concepts and terms included in the
new HIPAA Privacy Rule and discusses best practices for maintaining
patient confidentiality. This course can be offered separately for
dental offices that may need employee HIPAA training. Books not
included.
