How quickly can someone learn welding skills?

Welding is a skill you can learn quickly and put to work right away, earning a good living for some of the state’s biggest industries. Midlands Technical College has a variety of programs that fit almost any schedule.

What kinds of jobs can welders do?

When it comes to employment choices for professional welders, the sky is the limit. Welders can be found working on pipelines in Alaska, space shuttle launch platforms, stock-car speedways, and underwater bridge supports. There are also many opportunities close to home.

How can I be sure there are job opportunities?

There’s plenty of work for professional welders and even more on the horizon. Nearly half of the nation’s welding workforce is due to retire soon. The US economy depends on a constant supply of professional welders, and experts say that demand is only going to grow.

How can I get started?

Midlands Technical College offers a number of different programs in welding technologies. Go full time or part time. Attend day or evening courses. Midlands Technical College is now accepting students into its Welding Technologies programs. Financial aid is available for many students.

Choose from the following MTC course and certificate offerings in welding technology that prepare you for the workforce. Our programs are very flexible - successful completion in one may lead to advanced placement opportunity in another.

Welding I Certificate (3 semesters)
May be applied toward an Associate in Occupational Technology (AOT) Degree

• This option may be right for you - if you:
  • Are seeking a two-year, associate's degree
  • Are able to score into college level courses on the Compass College Entrance Exam
  • Want to learn about many welding methods
  • Want to gain the knowledge to become certified
  • Would like to use financial aid such as Lottery Tuition Assistance, VA, Pell Grant, etc.
  • Want to attend daytime, weekday classes

Welding short courses

• This option may be right for you - if you:
  • Are seeking knowledge, skills and/or certification
  • Want to focus on a specific method of welding or multiple methods
  • Want to attend evening or daytime, weekday classes
  • Want to become proficient in a variety of welding methods in a condensed, 16-week fulltime format
  • Are underemployed or unemployed and qualify for Workforce Investment Act funding
